Southeast Raleigh Promise engaged Frontline Solutions to conduct a resident listening process and gather community input for a new multi-function site that would include mixed-income housing, a school, a health center, and other community resources in Southeast Raleigh. This neighborhood is historically African American but rapidly diversifying. In order to maximize participation and buy-in, Frontline worked with a small group of community leaders to co-design the listening process. Frontline also ensured that a diverse and representative cross-section of the community was included by conducting surveys and town hall sessions and by providing stipends for local high school students to canvass homes. A research team from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill worked with the Frontline team to develop case studies of other successful community development initiatives in the area. Frontline also collaborated with Latinx community leaders to develop recommendations for better engaging Latinx residents in the process.
